March Vintage Bike OC Meet
BMW Last Edition

Huntington Beach, Calif. - After getting a half of an inch of rain over night and the time change, I was expecting a light turnout. Heavy clouds were looming just north of us and at 2:00 we only had 19 bikes in the lot. The threatening look of the clouds brought the meet to an early end. Even with the official count at 49 bikes it was still a great meet.

BAM: Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists
Kitty Brooks, So Cal Marketing Rep for Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys spent her Sunday afternoon with us promoting their BAM program. Learn more about it at: www.RussBrown.com

Today several of us were fooled by a new build, a 2017 Janus Halcyon 250. www.JanusMotorcycles.com I talked to the owner several times and failed to get his name, he's owned the Janus for about a year. Built in Indiana with a combination of US and imported parts, it looks like it would be a fun bike to ride around.

The voting was spread thinly over many bikes with Ted Hannegan barely squeaking by Larry Luce with one vote and Shawn Boeker not far behind either of them.

Bike of the Month
Congratulations to Ted Hannegan of San Juan Capistano for winning Bike of the Month with his 1973 Honda CB750 four. Ted won a trophy provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. This is a daily rider for Ted, who averages 1,100 miles a month on the CB750. Read all about the 1973 Honda CB750 four on our Bike of the Month page.

Second Place
Larry Luce of Huntington Beach came in Second with his 1938 Velocette KSS. Larry has owned the Velocette for over 25 years. When he first got it, it was a mess. Now it runs well and has a petina that only 80 years can create.

Third Place
Shawn Boeker of Huntington Beach took Third place with his 1984 BMW R100S Last Edition. Shawn showed up early and didn't want to compete because he had to leave early. He returned later and had enough time to gather some votes for his 1 of 180 Last Editions built.

In 1984, BMW claimed that this would be the "Last 1000cc Boxer" due to the introduction of the K Models. A few years later, they changed their minds but Shawn still owns a significantly rare all original bike.

Shawn is also the builder of Joshua Sult's 1966 BMW R60/2 which won Bike of the Month last month February 2018.

The second and third place winners were awarded EuroPapi t-shirts provided by Roland Ortiz of EuroPapi Motorcycle Streetwear, www.europapiusa.com.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event and a special thanks to the team, Tom & Debbie Hopkins. I'll see you next month on April 8, 2018.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
