Congratulations to Mike Guterrez of Huntington Beach and his Father-in-law Tony Palumbo for winning Bike of the Month with their 1969 Honda CB750 Sandcast.
Mike won a trophy provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
One of the most revolutionary bikes in motorcycle history, the 1969 Honda CB750 Took the world by storm and changed the way we looked at bikes.
Tony Palumbo knew this when he put down a deposit to get to the top of the list at Bill Krause Honda/Triumph dealership in Hawthorne, California.
He believes that he got one of the first 100 bikes sold in the US, and the serial number of 000778 proves it's an early one.
Tony gave the CB750 to Mike back in 2016 and Mike started the restoration process so that his wife could ride on it like she had as a child.
Mike started on the restoration with Perry Edwards (PDI Restorations) back in 2016 in two phases. The bike started out as Candy Apple Red when Tony bought it but had
a custom paint job done in the Continental Airlines shop at LAX when Mike recieved it. Tony had ridden the bike for about thirty years up until the late 1990's.
The first phase of the restoration was getting it running and rebuilding the wheels and drive train. Phase two consisted of all new tins and exhuast from Yamiya of Japan.
Mike decided to go with Gold which was a factory color in 1969, but not available on the early sandcast models. He has all the original parts and may one day restore them to
the original Candy Red.
Thank you Mike for bringing your Honda for all of us to see. See all the photos in our September Gallery.
