Congratulations to Jim Underwood of Hawaiian Gardens for winning Bike of the Month with his 1948 Indian Chief.
Like our winner last month, this bike just got back on the road. With 152 miles on the clock, today was Jim's first major ride on the Chief and he only heard about our group when he happened to run into Mike Gregor at Cook's Corner this morning.
20 Years in the Making
Somewhere around twenty years ago, Jim traded his 1956 Chrysler Station Wagon for the 1948 Indian Chief which he described as a Rolling Basket Case.
The restoration began around fifteen years ago, but Jim said that around eight of those years were waiting for the engine to be finished. Wilson Plank of American Indian Engineering in Fullerton built the engine. The engine looks and runs like it's new.
See all the pictures in our August Gallery. Thank you Jim for bringing it to the meet.
