1953 BMW R68

Congratulations to Eugene Garcin of Hollywood for winning Bike of the Month with his 1953 BMW R68. Eugene won a $20.00 Beach Burgers gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.

This is only the second Vintage Bike OC meet for Eugene who came down from Hollywood last month with one of his sidecar BMWs. Eugene has owned this R68 for seven years, he bought it as a basket case and restored it to it's current glory.

BMW Milestone
The R68 is a rare BMW. Only 1453 bikes were manufactured between 1952 and 1954. This model is the first BMW production motorcycle ever to reach 100 MPH. The bike has a drive shaft Sport Final Drive and a Plunger frame signified by the telescoping front fork.

Sidecar Collection
This R68 is one of six BMW motorcycles owned by Eugene. It's the only one without a sidecar. Maybe next month we'll get to see another sidecar model.

The Bike of the Month contest is held monthly at the Vintage Bike OC meet. Qualifying motorcycles must be 30 years old or older. Former Bike of the Month winning bikes are not eligible to win again. Anyone attending the meet is eligible to enter a qualifying bike in the contest and vote for their favorite bike. The winning bike is chosen by a popular vote and is featured on the Home page for one month and in this feature article. The Bike of the Month articles are permanent content on the site.
