Congratulations to Dave Maestrejuan of Santa Ana for winning Bike of the Month with his 1969 Kawasaki Sidewinder 250.
Dave won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Today was Dave's first time at our meet. He just finished the restoration on this bike Wednesday. On Thursday he took it to Jon Seidel's Vintage Bike Night
at Moon Goat Coffee in Costa Mesa and was awarded the winner. That's where he heard about our meet.
Dave is truely an artist, not only with steel but with paint. He's a professional artist and his work can be found on his website: www.maestrejuan.com.
He also restores classic Ferraris for a private collector.
He's been riding and racing since he was 15 years old, always off-road. In 2013 he started collecting bikes. He has 11 vintage Kawasaki dirt bikes all from 1968 - 1970.
Dave bought the Sidewinder 250 six years ago to restore it into a street legal motorcycle. He told me that it's difficult to ride on BLM land without a registered bike.
Too often you have to cross, or use roads to get around.
Even though the 250 is perfect, it will be ridden in the dirt very soon. That's what it was built for according to Dave.
I'm not that familiar with Two-Strokes, the Sidewinder has rotory valves and an internal carburetor. Dave said it was pretty typical for that time period.
Thank you Dave for bringing your 1969 Kawasaki Sidewinder 250 out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our May Gallery.
