VINTAGE BIKE OC NEWS

Huntington Beach, Calif. - It was a hot day in Huntington Beach today, 79° according to weather.com, the sun was high and bright. We had a great showing. The official count was 35 bikes total, with at least 20 bikes in the running for Bike of the Month.

Congratulations to Chuck Horton of Long Beach. Chuck took home Bike of the Month honors with his recently completed (99% complete) 1972 Norton Commando Combat Model. Chuck still has some finishing touches in mind.

The runner up for in the voting was a very clean 1984 Suzuki GS1150ES, and tied for third were Cory Edwards with his 1977 Honda CB-550 Super Sport and Mark Wing with his 1977 Kawasaki KZ650, with one of five paint schemes Mark has for this bike.

Attack of the Honda Trail 70's
We had a mad gang of Honda Trail 70 riders invade the meet today. Fortunately they weren't armed and didn't stir up any trouble. I counted 6, and I know at least a couple of our member's who own them that weren't here. We may have to change our name to Vintage Minibike OC.

Several former Bike of the Month winners came today, Julie Tomlinson rode her 1977 Yamaha XS400 and last month's winner Al Haskell rode his 1970 Triumph TR6.

My Apologies to Larry Horn, 1950 Norvin
Larry Horn brought out his 1949-50 Norvin. It has a 1950 Vincent Black Shadow engine, in a 1949 Manx Norton frame. I didn't put a voting number on it because I misstakenly thought he had won Bike of the Month already. Hopefully next month Larry will bring it back and we'll put him in the running. I feel bad, but it's difficult to remember all 23 bikes that have won since August 2007. I need to improve my system.

As always, it was a great meet. Thanks to all of you who came out including several of my personal friends who drove down just to see what all my excitement was about. I'm looking forward to a great meet on August 9, 2009. Mark your calendars.
