VINTAGE BIKE OC NEWS

Huntington Beach, Calif. - It was a bit warm today in Huntington Beach and the meet seemed to get off to a slow start. Even though at 2:05 we had over 40 bikes, most of them were outside of the vintage compound. The grand tally was 99 bikes and many vintage bikes were not in the contest.

Briggs and Stratton Battalion
We were almost over-run today by a gang of Whizzer wanna-bes. All kidding aside, four guys showed up on Briggs and Stratton powered bicycles. Three of them were in the contest for Bike of the Month, but one was a brand new replica.

First timer Doug brought his rusty big base board track racer replica and turned a lot of heads. Many people wanted to vote for it, not realizing it was a few months old made from plumbing pipes and a lawn mower engine.

Bike of the Month Contest
Bike of the Month went easily to Garry Lieser of Mission Viejo for his custom 1979 Honda CB-X. Garry brought this bike out for the first time today in it's current incarnation. Garry has brought this bike before, but it was mostly stock. He was awarded a $20.00 gift certificate to Beach Burgers, provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.

Bill Perrone of Huntington Beach took second place with his 1965 Triumph Bonnieville T120R. Normally we don't have a second place award, but today Bill won a Motozania cap provided by www.Motozania.com.

Garry and Bill may have been lucky that Victor Clift of San Clemente was trapped in the traffic on the way to the meet. Victor showed up right at 3:00 with his 1974 Yamaha XS650 flat tracker. If Victor would have been at the meet for a little more time he may have won. Victor has owned it for 3 years and says it's a work in progress. Bored out to 750cc this bike looks like it's ready to race.
