Huntington Beach, Calif. -
What a great day we had for a meet. It was a perfect warm August afternoon.
At 2:00 we already had 50 bikes in the lot, mostly newer but things were just warming up.
The official count ended up being 80 bikes. We had an extremely close contest for
Bike of the Month, four bikes were all within 2 votes of each other.
BAM: Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists
None of the So Cal Marketing Representatives for Russ Brown Motorcycle
Attorneys were available today to their BAM program. They
let me know that they were all in Sturgis for something called "Bike Week"? I
dunno, South Dakota VS Califoria? ...
Learn more about it at: www.RussBrown.com
Bike of the Month - Baird Bergenthal
Congratulations to Baird Bergenthal of Midway City for winning Bike of the Month
with his 1958 Hercules K100 J-Be.
Baird won the Bike of the Month plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. www.RussBrown.com.
Baird is no stranger to the group, although the bikes he brings are somewhat strange. He always
has some sub 150cc ride to wow us with. This is his third time winning Bike of the Month,
his two previous victories are:
May 2021 1963 Batavus Bilonet
December 2014 1957 Moto Beta
Read all about Baird's
1958 Hercules K100 J-Be on our Bike of the Month page.
Second Place - Steve Woods (Dave Zamiska pictured)
Steve Woods (Dave Zamiska pictured) of Huntington Beach took for Second place with his 1963 Honda CL72.
Steve insisted that Dave Zamiska be pictured with the bike because Dave restored it from the ground up.
However after the restoration, Steve had to hand fabricate carburetor parts to keep the Honda running.
Third Place Tie - Hans Peters
Hans Peters of San Clemente tied for third place with his beautiful original (toaster tank) 1973 BMW R75.
The 48 year old paint looks brand new.
Third Place Tie - Steve Cook
Steve Cook of Bellflower tied for third place with his 1942 Harley Davidson Deluxe EL.
If I'm not mistaken, Steve has only been to our meet a couple of times and placed in the contest both months.
Flash Back! - September 2014 Bike of the Month
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the elephant in the room.
Nick DiBenedetto of Huntington Beach brought out his 1964 Twin Engine Triumph
for all of us to marvel over. Unfortunately, I only took one photo of it, but there are already
plenty on the site. He won Bike of the Month the first time he brought it back in
September 2014 Bike of the Month and for photos September 2014 Gallery
Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event.
A special thanks to Brian Tinkler and John Zindler for helping out with
the voting today. Debbie and Tom Hopkins were unable to attend today,
I look forward to seeing them again soon.
I'll see you all next month on September 12, 2021.
Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
