April Vintage Bike OC Meet
Dave Tegen Dave Tegen

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Another great afternoon in Huntington Beach. I thought it may be a record crowd because at 2:00 we already had 42 bikes. In the end, it was a nice size group of 68. A lot of nice bikes to check out, and several new ones.

David L. Tegen March 14, 1947 - February 5, 2021
Dave Tegen of Laguna Beach passed away on February 5 at his home in Laguna Beach. His friend Pete Whelan wrote a nice eulogy:

Dave grew up in Long Beach and graduated from LB Poly High School in 1965. He was drafted into the Army shortly after and stationed in Korea. After returning to Long Beach, he went to school and received a masters degree in industrial education and then taught high school shop classes for a few years.

After that, he went to work as a tool and die maker at a couple of aerospace companies. This allowed him to take time off and travel whenever he felt like it.

Dave had been involved with motorcycles since he was a teenager beginning with a Zundapp and had ridden well over three quarters of a million miles travelling all over the United States and Europe on BMWs. He even stored a bike overseas for a few years so he wouldn't have to ship it back and forth as he came and went.

Dave was also into woodworking and made a lot of the furniture in his house as well as a few stained glass windows.

He died at his home in Laguna Beach of a heart attack on February 5th. He would have 74 on March 14.

Al Nowacinski of Huntington Beach took for Second place with his 1956 MV Agusta 175CS. Al has owned the MV Agusta for three years. He bought it fully restored, but as he said spent the last two years "stripping the lipstick off the pig", and cleaning it up. Well he cleaned it up very nicely.

Third Place - Steve Cook
Steve Cook of Bellflower with his 1941 Harley Davidson EL
Steve Cook of Bellflower won Third place with his 1941 Harley Davidson EL. This is the first time Steve has brought a vintage bike to our meet. He has owned the Harley for seven years. He bought it as is, and continued to maintain it.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event. A special thanks to John Zindler for helping out with the voting today. Debbie and Tom Hopkins were unable to attend today, I look forward to seeing them again soon.

I'll see you all next month on May 9, 2021.

Keep On Ridin',
